5/27/2023 0 Comments The scar china mieville reviewShe is emotionally cold, manipulative, selfish, and lacking in any sense of humor. Most importantly, I loved the main character of Bellis Coldwine because she is not a typical character I would root for. It makes his books feel slightly Victorian, although they were written in the last 20 years. I wouldn't exactly call it purple, but he certainly is more verbose and complex than most writing today. I liked the "city on the sea" setting, as I am a sucker for pirate stories. I liked how the book expanded my knowledge of the world of Bas Lag. I don't do full blown reviews, but I can run through some of the main things I liked about it. However, I am glad I never said so publicly, because I think The Scar is a slightly better book than Perdido. After reading Perdido Street Station in 2019, I was stunned by the breadth of Mieville's imagination, and could not imagine another Bas Lag book being better than it. I just finished The Scar by China Mieville and absolutely loved it.
